LEXINGTON, OH-  The Lexington boys basketball team has jumped out of the box at 2-0 on the season with wins over rival Clear Fork 73-63 last Friday, and Willard the next night winning big 80-39.  With several new faces in the lineup, not everyone was sure just how things would shake out once the ball was tossed up on Friday night.

"Based on the scrimmages before the season started things were a little questionable with the chemistry," said junior guard Kyle Johnston.  "We knew we had it off the court, just wondered how it was going to happen on the court.  We're all very pleased with how we performed last Friday and Saturday so we'll see what happens."

Clear Fork was a tough win they are a good team," said senior point guard Bryant Givand.  We had it focused for Willard.  I think we pulled it together communication was better it was a good win.

"We weren't really sure about it being a new coaching staff, said head coach Scott Hamilton.  We had heard some kids did not return from last year's roster for Willard so we weren't really sure.  We really talked to the guys on Saturday night about the tradition of Willard basketball and I think we benefitted from them playing against Upper Sandusky on Friday with all the trapping.  We got up there and we played a really good game our guys came out and played well.  So we're feeling pretty good right now, but you're only as good as your last win."

Up next for Lexington is the first league game of the season against Mansfield Senior.  The Tygers are under new coach Marquise Sykes and come to Lex at 1-1 after a 71-57 loss to Mansfield St. Peter's Saturday night and a 67-51 win over St.Michael College School out of Canada last Sunday.  Hamilton says at the moment the Tygers are a bit of a mystery.

"They played St. Pete's and we played that same night so I didn't get to see them. Then they played St. Michaels out of Canada and I have no idea who they are.  I'm not really sure yet.  It's so early in the season for those guys, Marquise is a good coach I know that from being on the JV team.  He definitely has some talent over there and some skilled players, but I'm just not so sure where they are at right now and what they are trying to accomplish, but hopefully, we'll be ready for them on Friday night."

Though some things may be different with this edition of the Tygers, some things according to Givand will remain the same.  "A lot of pressure a lot of action a lot of energy but, I think we'll be ready for it.  It will be a big test but I think we can handle it."

"We just gotta pound the ball inside and have an inside presence on them," says Johnston.  We're a tall team and we have more height than a lot of teams.  Definitely, have to beat their pressure."

The Mansfield Senior at Lexington game can be seen live on WMFD TV Friday with the tip off at right around 7:35 pm.
