David E. Maxwell, 89, the oldest son of Russell and Mary (Stevens) Maxwell, passed on to the Lord Friday, December 8, 2017 at Primrose.

He enjoyed many things in life. He was in the Air National Guard and was a lifetime member of the Mens Garden Club and a member of the Elks Club. David loved sports in school and was a basketball player and a softball pitcher, which he still did when he was married (to Donna DeLong Maxwell for 67 years). He also enjoyed gardening ~ taking excellent care of his flower gardens ~ and took up the game of golf after he gave up pitching.

David retired from Wagner Wholesale Hardware following 47 years of service working his way up from sales to president, a position he held for 15 years prior to retiring. He enjoyed retirement spending the winter's in Florida for over 20 years. He took up cross-stitch and was proud that he had made everyone in the family a picture or a pillow. He also loved genealogy tracing the Maxwell family back 8 generations.

He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Donna (DeLong) Maxwell; two children, Thomas Maxwell (friend Norma Schultz) and Susan (Alan) Ross; two grandchildren, Travis (Emily) Ross and Michael (Kim) Ross; three great grandchildren, Asher Ross, Isadora Ross and Agatha Ross. He is also survived by his younger brother, Duane Maxwell; a brother-in-law, Bill Briner; sisters-in-law, Priscila Briner, Marie Maxwell and Marylou DeLong; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Mary (Stevens) Maxwell; a brother, Dean Maxwell; a sister, Leola (Maxwell) Briner; brothers-in-law, Mervin and Betty (Godfried) DeLong, Dean and Shirley (Daniel) DeLong and Jim and Edith (DeLong) Augustine.
