WATCH: Inmate Assaults Richland County Corrections Officer

MANSFIELD, OH - Video shows the moment a Richland County Jail Inmate assaults a Corrections Officer on November 9th, 2017. 

Officer Steve McDonnell was conducting a medication pass when inmate David Lee Baker approached him. Baker threw an unknown liquid at the officer and then proceeded to strike the officer in the head with a closed fist. 

According to the incident report, McDonnell attempted to restrain Baker and deployed his assigned taser to gain control. Several other inmates assisted the officer in getting Baker to roll on his stomach and place his hands on his back. Baker was taken to the booking area to be evaluated by medical staff.

McDonnell was taken to Ohio Health Mansfield to receive treatment for injuries that he sustained during the assault. 

Surveillance Video shows Baker going into a bathroom to fill his cup with water, which he later uses on McDonnell.

Baker was later placed on lockdown until further notice. There were no reported visible injuries on Baker. Baker has been charged with Failure to Comply With The Order Of A Police Office and Assault On A Corrections Officer.
